An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced news media or PR professional to join our team


Sitting within our Marketing team, the External Affairs Manager role is responsible for ensuring World Vision has a visible and authoritative presence in across the New Zealand media landscape


You will know the NZ media landscape inside out, and with your contacts, news sense and creativity, will confidently place stories across all mediums which align to World Vision’s strategic outcomes.


In this role you will respond to media inquiries, proactively pitch stories and content to news media outlets, lead our media strategy during an emergency response, use your ‘news sense’ to respond to media opportunities, and emergencies, finding the right angle and successfully pitching into appropriate media.


You will have excellent written communication, and will be responsible for writing media releases, creative pitches, and opinion pieces.


In this role you will manage a small team responsible for responsible for bringing World Vison New Zealand to life across all relevant social media channels. This role also works as part of a team to deliver our strategic media partnerships to ensure successful rollouts; amplifying relevant campaigns to provide oxygen to World Vision’s Marketing efforts, as well as providing support on organisational risk and reputation needs. You will also lead our advocacy media, often working in coalitions with other NGO’s.


Great at building and maintaining relationships, you will be comfortable and confident engaging with high profile New Zealand celebrities, influencers and media personalities throughout the year. When Covid-restrictions ease, you will be comfortable travelling to World Vision projects across the developing world, leading teams of external media and or celebrities/influencers, working to produce content for a wide array of internal and external outlets.

To be successful in this role, here’s what you need:


  • A relevant tertiary qualification (marketing, journalism or communications)
  • Minimum of at least 5 years' experience as a PR / media professional
  • Proven experience in executing high-profile media projects is preferable
  • Team management background preferred 
  • Excellent knowledge of the New Zealand media landscape and an ability to identify news stories
  • Strong existing relationships across NZ media.
  • Proven experience managing high profile celebrities/influencers is preferable
  • Excellent communications and copywriting skills and editorial judgement - ability to write, edit and proof-read quality written content
  • Experience in risk and reputation comms
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop high quality relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to deal with unpredictable and changeable environments
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel as required
