An exciting opportunity exists for a Head of Philanthropy to join New Zealand's largest international humanitarian organisation - World Vision. Employing 80 staff and a large volunteer base, last year alone, we helped 2.9 million children across 23 countries around the world.

The Head of Philanthropy is responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to the teams within this department. This role will further develop the Philanthropy strategy and also inspire and empower the team to deliver. In doing so you will help improve the lives of millions of vulnerable children around the world – what more motivation would you need?!

Responsibilities are outlined on the job description; here is a summary.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Engage and motivate a capable and experienced team of dedicated managers
  • Provide strategic direction and growth plans to all key Philanthropy teams; Major Donors, Middle Donors and Gifts in Wills
  • Manage processes and systems to encourage measurability, continuous improvement and growth
  • Develop, agree, and deliver on an annual income budget and monthly targets with the Director of Marketing and Engagement
  • Build and develop a high performing and focused team that achieves results
  • Work with other departments to ensure the best experience, reporting, and engagement for our amazing Donors

 

What we're looking for:

 

  • Significant leadership experience, ideally in a major gift fundraising or alternatively key account sales.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management and negotiation skills – for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience and knowledge of the NGO sector, preference given to International Development
  • Proven experience in creating new strategies and sales growth.
  • Commercial nous and Fundraising knowledge, especially in Major and Mid Donor, and Bequest areas.
  • Authentic leadership that inspires, manages, motivates, and focuses a Donor-centric team.
  • Strong experience on systems, reporting, processes, and follow-through.
  • Proven networker and public speaker who can influence and demonstrate by example how to solicit high value gifts.
  • Personal values strongly aligned with World Vision’s. A heart for World Vision’s work.
  • A relevant degree-level qualification.
